马来西亚半岛湖泊，霹雳州属，太平湖
Visitors to this part of Perak will be glad to note that what was once
a tin mine has now been turned to a beautiful park. As one of the many firsts
in Taiping, the Taiping Lake Garden has been operational since 1880. It was
built on an old mining land and today plays host to a variety of plants,
flowers, trees, birds and a dazzling variety of insects. The old mining pool
has become the crown jewel - the lake.
These 64 hectares of exuberant green turf, trees and plants portray the
good sense of environmental rehabilitation and preservation. The clean and
well-maintained Lake Garden encompasses a lake, a recreational park and a
Japanese garden. Together with the nearby golf course and zoo, this whole area
forms the green lung of Taiping.
The lake garden is the perfect place to escape from the petrol fumes
and stress of city living, a haven to rejuvenate the spirits. The people of
Taiping are very lucky for they have an ideal location for an evening stroll
under the cool and shady trees. Mother Nature could not have provided better.

Comments : Surrounded by greenery, including an old Hill Station, the "town of everlasting peace" indeed offer some good retreat opportunities. But to find those, you will have to leave the developed town center.
What to do ? Leave the shops & traffic behind by walking 1km to the east / Walk the small path around the lake / Cross small bridges / Spot monitor lizards / See other wild animals at the big zoo / Watch locals play grass hockey / Visit the oldest museum in the country / Back in town, check out a few Chinese & Indian Temples / Shop around / Taste Satay at the large night market / Get a Land Rover ride (R2) to Maxwell Hill and enjoy the view & walks around / Walk down the hill (2-3 hours) Note : I did not go to the Hill myself. Anyone to relate the experience ?

19世纪末，在拉鲁开采锡矿的华工因帮派之争，发生械斗流血事件，英国官方出面加以平息后，将拉鲁更名为“太平”。
现在的太平市一如其名，是个宁静详和的古老城市，由锡矿场辟建而成的湖滨公园，则被称为“全马最美的公园”。马来西亚霹雳州的太平市（Taiping）在1848年还不叫做太平，人们称它为拉鲁（Larut），当时因为在附近的近打河谷发现珍贵的锡矿，所以吸引了大批的英国人，也因而招募许多华工参与开采工作，而当时这些华人便聚居在太平市内。
现在的太平市一如其名，是个相当宁静详和的古老城市，群山环绕，市内街道整洁，林木扶疏，而且有许多古老的建筑，适合作1至2日游。太平在怡保的北方，由吉隆坡前往，搭乘火车约需6小时。由于太平市并不是规模很大的都会，因此利用德士或步行旅游，都是很不错的旅游方式。
位于太平市西侧的湖滨公园，原本是个锡矿场，因积水成湖，所以于1890年被辟建为公园，整个公园景观环绕着二座小湖泊，园内繁花似锦，林木浓绿，景色十分迷人，因此有人称它是全马来西亚最美的公园。这个占地62公顷的公园附设了儿童游乐场、溜冰场、泛舟及水上餐厅，此外，公园旁还有一座9洞高尔夫球场，这是东南亚第一座高尔夫球场。
